Lackland Air Force Base Parade Grounds

Since 1946, the Lackland Air Force Base Parade Grounds are where several million Airmen have culminated their basic training experience by marching in a Basic Military Training Graduation Parade. Strategically placed around these hallowed grounds are many Air Force aircraft and monuments to recognize and honor numerous groups of Airmen and their accomplishments. As the graduates turn left onto the Line of March (the "Bomb Run") and pass over the distinctive Blue Line, they cross over the Enlisted Heroes Walk (which contains a brick for every recipient of the Medal of Honor, the Air Force Cross, and the Silver Star), and begin their final stretch towards graduation.

In the center of the Parade Grounds is the crown jewel of the grounds, the MTI Monument, which was dedicated in May 1980, to honor all enlisted personnel who had served and would serve in years to come. The efforts of CMSgt Bobby Carter, the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Air Force Military Training Center, and CMSgt Vern Shiller, President of Air Force Sergeant's Association Chapter 1070, were instrumental in the construction of this lasting legacy.

Placed along the boundaries of the Parade Ground are vintage Air Force aircraft, as well as a variety of monuments dedicated to various individuals and career fields.
